There’s nothing better than some delicious, homemade spaghetti sauce. I love homemade food because I am certain of what exactly I am eating. I have an option to make it as healthy as I want by using fresh ingredients that do not have any sugar or unnecessary additives in them.
PrintBeef Spaghetti Sauce
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 45 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour
- Yield: 5 servings 1x
- Category: Sauce
- Method: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
1 medium-large sweet onion, diced
Optional: 1/2 cup diced mushrooms
5 garlic cloves, minced
16 oz (1 lb) grass-fed ground beef (or sub turkey if desired)
28 oz can of organic crushed tomatoes
2 14 oz cans tomato sauce
2 tsp salt, divided, to taste
Lots of fresh cracked black pepper
1 cup lightly packed fresh basil, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat a 5-quart stainless steel pan to medium-high heat with olive oil
- Add the diced onion and sauté for several minutes until fragrant and translucent.
- Add the mushrooms and sauté another minute or two until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté another minute.
- Add the ground beef and 1 tsp salt and cook 5-10 minutes until browned, breaking it up as it cooks and incorporating all of the ingredients together.
- Mix in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, fresh cracked black pepper, and the remaining 1 tsp of salt.
- Add the chopped basil and mix together.
- Heat over medium/high heat until mixture is sizzling. Then turn down to low simmer and leave uncovered for at least 30 minutes, but preferably a couple hours (the longer it sits, the more vibrant the flavors will be).
- Taste test and add more salt as needed. Also add more fresh cracked black pepper or basil if desired.
- Serve over cooked pasta of choice and enjoy!
