Ingredients

Scale

1 Tbsp olive oil

1 small onion, diced

1 small bell pepper, diced

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 lb ground beef

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2 Tbsp tomato paste

2 Tbsp honey or coconut sugar

1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar

1 tsp yellow mustard

1 tsp chili powder

Instructions

  1. In a large 12-inch skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook until softened and the onions are translucent and golden, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spatula, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, honey, vinegar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer and simmer 8-12 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Serve on hamburger buns and enjoy with a side salad or other side of choice.
