Homemade Taco Seasoning

How-To Guides 3 comments

I like to bulk make this taco seasoning blend because it’s a great seasoning to have on hand for taco nights, whether it’s actual tacos, or taco bowls, taco soup, taco salad, etc. You have lots of options for what to do with taco meat! This spice blend comes together easily in just a couple minutes and you’re set for many delicious meals. I recently used it for my Taco Soup recipe and it was perfect!

Ingredients:

Chili powder – Use a chili powder blend. Simple Truth Organic and Simply Organic both work well.

Ground cumin

Onion powder

Granulated garlic

Ground paprika – Use regular paprika, not smoked paprika.

Dried oregano

Black pepper

Coriander (optional) – Coriander is cilantro seed, it doesn’t taste like cilantro leaves, but has a delicious, sweet taste to it.

Method

  1. Mix together the ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark spot such as the pantry.

How to use taco seasoning

To make taco meat: For each pound of ground beef or turkey, I use about 2 1/2 Tbsp of taco seasoning. Since this seasoning does not have salt added, you’ll also add salt to whatever dish you’re making (I usually add 3/4 tsp of pink himalayan salt for a pound of ground beef or turkey, but adjust to taste.

My favorite spice containers

I recently upgraded to these glass containers for my spices in my pantry because I usually buy in bulk or homemake my seasonings. These are 8oz jars, so I find them to be sufficient for most of my spices. I love that they have such a wide opening because I can easily fit a tablespoon measurer in it rather than having to pour the seasoning out (since bigger measuring spoons don’t fit in the smaller spice containers that you buy in store). They’re made of glass, fully air-tight (I did the water test), and have the cutest look with the bamboo tops and the labels that they come with.

If you like the idea of having matching spice jars but don’t want ones that are quite as big, then you can opt for these 4oz jars. They’re still glass with bamboo lids and come with labels.
