This unique burger recipe is surprisingly tasty and is definitely my favorite burger combo at the moment! We’re using a Mango Jalapeño BBQ sauce in the burger mixture, and also topping the burgers with fresh diced mango and jalapeño. It’s so refreshing, hearty, and delicious. You’ll want to give these Mango Jalapeño BBQ Burgers a try at your next grill-out!
Nutritional benefits of this recipe
- Grass-fed ground beef is rich in protein, iron, b-vitamins, zinc, selenium, and phosphorous.
- Mango is rich in lots of vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamin A, C, and K. It’s also rich in antioxidants and fiber as well.
- Jalapeno is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and beta-carotene (antioxidant).
- We’re using sprouted buns – I always recommend opting for sprouted buns, bread, etc. when it comes to wheat products. The sprouting process reduces the phytates, lectins, and starch which makes it significantly easier to digest and also increases the protein and vitamins and minerals. So opt for sprouted buns!
Ingredients
Grass-fed ground beef
Mango Jalapeño BBQ sauce – For the burger mixture. I use Primal Kitchen – you can use code Christine for 10% off!
Salt – for the burger mixture
Fresh mango – You’ll dice it up to put on top of the burger. You can also grill the mango before dicing it up if you want!
Jalapeño – You’ll dice this up to put on top of the burger as well. If you don’t want the burger spicy, then omit this.
Onion – For topping the burger. I love grilling the onion slices before putting it on the burger – it’s so good!
Lettuce – I used romaine
Sprouted hamburger buns
Method
- Dice the mango and jalapeño and set aside. (If you want to grill the mango, then cut into slices first for grilling).
- Slice the onion.
- Prep the lettuce and any other topping such as tomato.
- If desired, butter the inside of the buns if you want to grill them.
- Heat the grill to medium-high heat or about 450ºF.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the Mango Jalapeno BBQ Sauce and the salt. Add the ground beef and gently mix by hand, incorporating the sauce into the ground beef. Don’t overwork the meat.
- Grill the formed patties immediately or place into the refrigerator to keep them cold. See notes for grilling time instructions.
- At the last few minutes, add the sliced onion to the grill (You can also add sliced mango as well if desired, then dice it after grilling). Flip them after a minute or so.
- At the very last minute, add the buttered buns if desired and cook over indirect heat.
- Remove everything from the grill onto a clean platter and let the burgers sit for a couple of minutes.
- Make the burger: Put the patty on a bun and top with grilled onion, mango, jalapeno, lettuce, and any other toppings. You can add more sauce or add healthy ketchup or healthy mayo (I use Primal Kitchen for these). Add the top bun and enjoy!
Modifications
- Use any other BBQ sauce flavor. Primal Kitchen has lots of other sauce options!
- Grill the onion, mango, and/or bun for even more delicious flavor.
- Make the burger mixture into meatballs instead of burgers – you can make a meatball sub with the mango and jalapeno!
