Ingredients

Scale

1 lb grass-fed ground beef

1/3 cup Mango Jalapeño BBQ sauce – I love the brand Primal Kitchen for healthy sauces, dressing, etc. – Use code “Christine”

3/4 tsp salt

1 mango (peeled and pitted), diced

1 small jalapeño, diced

1/4 sweet onion, sliced

Romaine lettuce

Sprouted buns (Food For Life is the best imo)

Instructions

  1. Dice the mango and jalapeño and set aside. (If you want to grill the mango, then cut into slices first for grilling).
  2. Slice the onion.
  3. Prep the lettuce and any other topping such as tomato.
  4. If desired, butter the inside of the buns if you want to grill them.
  5. Heat the grill to medium-high heat or about 450ºF.
  6. In a mixing bowl, stir together the Mango Jalapeno BBQ Sauce and the salt. Add the ground beef and gently mix by hand, incorporating the sauce into the ground beef. Don’t overwork the meat.
  7. Grill the formed patties immediately or place into the refrigerator to keep them cold. See notes for grilling time instructions.
  8. At the last few minutes, add the sliced onion to the grill (You can also add sliced mango as well if desired, then dice it after grilling). Flip them after a minute or so.
  9. At the very last minute, add the buttered buns if desired and cook over indirect heat.
  10. Remove everything from the grill onto a clean platter and let the burgers sit for a couple of minutes.
  11. Make the burger: Put the patty on a bun and top with grilled onion, mango, jalapeno, lettuce, and any other toppings. You can add more sauce or add healthy ketchup or healthy mayo (I use Primal Kitchen for these). Add the top bun and enjoy!

Notes

  • For rare burgers, cook for 4 minutes total (125°F)
  • For medium-rare burgers, cook for 5 minutes total (135°F)
  • For medium burgers, cook for 6 to 7 minutes total (145°F)
  • For well-done burgers, cook for 8 to 9 minutes total (160 °F)

Please note that the USDA recommends cooking ground meats to an internal temperature of at least 160°F, which is well done without any pink in the center. Cooking burgers to other degrees of doneness should be done at the cook’s discretion.
