If you love granola, but don’t particularly enjoy the cost of it at stores or the ingredient list of most, then this granola post is for you! This granola recipe is just an easy, basic recipe that you can follow and customize to the ingredients that you have on hand. I’ve made the ratios for you, now you just create the granola! You’ll definitely want to give this Customizable Granola a try, and you’ll be making it constantly!
Nutritional benefits of this recipe
- Oats are a prebiotic fiber, which helps feed the beneficial bacteria in our gut. They also have vitamins and minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and B6.
- Nuts and seeds provide a healthy source of fat and protein, making the granola more satiating and lower glycemic.
- Honey helps improve blood pressure, manage cholesterol, and boost the immune system. It also has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It’s rich in vitamin C, Vitamins B5, B3, and B2, along with minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.
Ingredients
Rolled oats – I use the sprouted rolled oats by One Degree Organics. They are easier to digest because of the sprouting process, and they are also free of glyphosate, pesticides, etc.
Nuts / seeds – Whatever nuts and seeds you have on hand, or create your own favorite combo! I personally love a mixture of pumpkin seeds and pecans and usually have those on hand, so that’s what I used in this recipe. But switch it up with what you have, or use a combination of a bunch!
Honey – Not only used as the sweetener but also helps everything stick together and become crunchy in the oven. I’ve also used maple syrup for granola too, and it’s delicious, but I find that honey makes larger clusters because it’s more sticky. If you don’t care for large clusters, then feel free to use maple syrup if you want.
Oil – I used melted coconut oil, but melted butter or ghee also works, or you can use avocado oil.
Vanilla extract – for some extra flavor. It’s optional though.
Salt
Dried fruit – This is optional if you like dried fruit in granola! And you can use any dried fruit that you want! You’ll add this after baking. You can use cherries, raisins, craisins, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, or even diced dates, apricots etc.

Method
- Preheat the oven to 320ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix together the honey, melted coconut oil (or butter, or avocado oil), and vanilla extract.
- Add the rolled oats, nuts/seeds, and a few pinches of salt and mix thoroughly.
- Dump the granola mixture onto the parchment paper. Using a spatula, press the granola down into a single layer about 1/4-1/2″ thick. Wet the spatula with water if the mixture is sticking to it.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes until the granola is browned on the edges.
- Remove from the oven and dump the dried fruit on top. Press some of it down into the granola. Do not break the granola up into clusters yet because the granola does not harden until it cools down. Let it cool to room temperature for about an hour before breaking up into clusters.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
