One of the best ways to have a filling snack throughout the week is to meal-prep energy balls! These Chocolate Peanut Butter Energy Balls are easy to throw together because you don’t need a food processor. Just mix it all in a bowl and you’re good to go!

Nutritional benefits of this recipe

  • Raw cacao is rich in antioxidants, magnesium, and iron. It helps fight free radicals, reduce inflammation, improve brain function and mood, and balance blood sugar.
  • Sprouted oats are better because the sprouting process significantly reduces the anti-nutrients in the oats as well as increases the availability of the vitamins and minerals. It also decreases the starch, which makes them lower glycemic. They are rich in fiber which feed the good bacteria in your microbiome. They also have magnesium and GABA which promote a calming effect on the body from the magnesium.
  • Raw honey helps improve blood pressure, manage cholesterol, and boost the immune system. It also has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It’s rich in vitamin C, Vitamins B5, B3, and B2, along with minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc

Ingredients

Sprouted rolled oats – I recommend using sprouted oats because they are much easier to digest, especially when eaten raw. The brand One Degree Organics has them, and they are a great price when purchased in bulk at Costco! You can also find them at Sprouts, Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, etc., but the price is much higher compared to Costco.

Raw honey – I always recommend purchasing raw, unfiltered honey that is also from a local farmer!

Raw Cacao – Cacao is different from cocoa because it’s not highly processed, so it’s very rich in nutrients and antioxidants. I always recommend cacao rather than cocoa!

Natural organic peanut butter – Look for an organic peanut butter that only has peanuts and salt as the ingredients.

Salt – For flavor

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Wet the palms of your hands slightly, then roll the mixture into 14 balls.
  3. Store in an airtight container and eat within 5 days.

Modifications

  • Substitute any other nut or seed butter in place of the peanut butter. Cashew butter, almond butter, and sunflower butter would be amazing too!
  • Substitute maple syrup in place of the honey. I haven’t tried this version yet, but since maple syrup is a bit thinner, you may need to add a bit of oat flour to the mixture.
  • Add superfoods such as cacao nibs, cacao flakes, ground flaxseed, mace powder, lucuma, ashwagandha, etc.

Ingredients
