Baked Pears with Pecan Crumble

Dessert, Gluten-Free 1 comment

These Baked Pears with Pecan Crumble lasted about 5 minutes in my house – they are delicious to say the least!. My husband loved them so much that he bought a dozen pears at Costco last week so that I could make them again – that’s a good sign in my book that a recipe was a success!

If you would like a healthy dessert idea, then try then one next. Or if you have a hard time going through pears before they go bad, then try out this recipe to use them up!

Ingredients

Pears – The base of the dish. Use pears that are ripe but still firm.

Flour – you can use either regular, oat, 1:1 gluten free, or even cassava.

Butter – for the crumble. You can sub with coconut oil if desired.

Coconut sugar – for the sweetener.

Pecans – for the crumble.

Cinnamon, nutmeg – for flavor.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  2. Melt the butter in a small bowl then mix in the flour, coconut sugar, pecans, and spices.
  3. Prep the pears by scooping out the core.
  4. Layer the pecan streusel on top of the pear. Bake for 20-24 minutes.

Modifications

  • Sub the pecans for walnuts if desired.
  • Sub the butter for coconut oil for a dairy free version.
  • Choose the flour you use. See the notes section of the recipe card to see how to substitute other flours such as oat, cassava, or 1:1 gluten-free blend.

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 large pear, ripe but still firm

2 Tbsp flour see notes for gluten-free

1 1/2 Tbsp butter, melted

2 Tbsp coconut sugar

1/3 cup chopped pecans

1/4 tsp cinnamon

A couple sprinkles of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  2. In a small bowl, melt the butter. Add the flour, coconut sugar, pecans, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir together with a fork. Set aside.
  3. Slice the pear in half and gently scoop out the core. Place the pears, cut side up in a small baking dish. You can also gently slice a small sliver from the back of the pears so that they face up easily (makes them less wobbly).
  4. Layer the pecan crumble mixture on top of the pears.
  5. Bake for 20-24 minutes, depending on how ripe the pears already are and also depending on your desired texture of the pear. The longer you bake them, the more soft they become.
  6. Eat immediately. Feel free to add a drizzle of honey, or a scoop of ice cream, or a dollop of vanilla yogurt, etc.

Notes

For gluten free:

  • You can sub oat flour 1:1
  • Or sub the 2 Tbsp of flour for 1 1/3 Tbsp cassava flour (I find that cassava can be quite a bit more dense, and it’s better to use less than too much for this recipe).
